What is the most popular street food in Amsterdam?

Poffertjes from The Pancake Bakery Ok, so you cannot come to Amsterdam without trying Poffertjes, which are cute little mini pancakes. Sort of the same size as blinis. We got ours to go, from The Pancake Bakery, and explored the canals whilst eating. They are addictive. The title for the most instagrammable street food in Amsterdam has to go to Ree7 for their gorgeous Freakshakes. Choose between pastel pink or blue ones, topped with donuts, candy floss and sour sweets. Freakshakes at Ree7 The Pulitzer Hotel is handily located in the 9 Streets neighbourhood of Amsterdam, which puts you right in the middle of a lot of foodie action. Explore the gorgeous canals, and the lovely street food… Which brings us to Ree7. If you ask nicely, the resto will let you run down to the nearest canal to take a shot. Top tip – if you have only a weekend in Amsterdam, like us, then the best way to cover all the street food is probably to take a few bites and save the rest for later. So for example at Ree7 we doggy-bagged the donuts, floss and sweets to eat later at the hotel, and just drank the shakes. Lunch at Jansz (truffled eggs and juicy burgers) Jansz is the main restaurant at Hotel Pulitzer and serves some stunning food. After checking in to the hotel and dumping your bags, head over to Jansz to start your food journey in Amsterdam. With burgers and some silky, truffled scrambled eggs. Mmm. Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx is one of the most iconic chip shops in Amsterdam, and is handily located just round the corned from Van Wonderen. Head in for a small cone of fries, remembering to also save room for… Shrimp croquettes at Patisserie Holtkamp Ok, ok, no human can possibly be hungry after all that… but you just have to try the shrimp croquettes from Patisserie Holtkamp. This hole-in-the-wall bakery is stuffed full of baked goods, and waiting customers. It’s a very popular spot and for good reason. Their croquettes are just incredible – served piping hot, stuffed full of cheese and shrimp, and coated in a crumb that crunches just to. Ahhh. Heaven. Donuts from Peejays So I saw a shot of the donuts from Peejays on Instagram, and knew in my heart that I needed them in my life. All six of them. They are as delicious as they look. Albert Cuypmarkt (and *those* hot dogs) Your street food pit stops of today will take you conveniently to the neighbourhood of De Pijp, which is where the Albert Cuypmarkt is located. This is a market of all things – fish, meat, clothes, designy-stuff. But we’re mostly here for the street food, obvi. Having already tried the stroopwafels, chips and sweet treats, we opted for the BBQ chicken ‘hot dogs’, which are insanely good. Imagine hot little bites of crunchy, BBQ glazed chicken, stuffed into a steamed hot dog bun and covered in American cheese. More please. Incredible views at A’DAM Toren (and Oliebollen) To end you last day in Amsterdam, head to the rooftop bar of A’DAM Toren and catch your final stunning sunset. On the way there, there is a food truck that sells fresh Oliebollen. These are basically deep fried sweet dumplings tossed in powdered cinnamon sugar, which are usually eaten around New Years Eve.
